Dussehra 2026: questions families ask
When is Dussehra in 2026?
Dussehra (Vijayadashami) is on Tuesday, 20 October 2026. Dashami tithi begins at 12:50 PM on 20 October and ends at 2:11 PM on 21 October. Because Dashami prevails in the afternoon (aparahna) of 20 October, that is the day of Vijayadashami.
What is the Vijay Muhurat on Dussehra 2026?
In New Delhi the Vijay Muhurat is 1:59 PM to 2:45 PM. Other cities: Mumbai 2:19–3:06 PM, Pune 2:16–3:02 PM, Bengaluru 2:02–2:49 PM, Hyderabad 1:57–2:44 PM and Chennai 1:51–2:39 PM. Shravana nakshatra, considered auspicious for Vijayadashami, lasts until 6:02 PM that day.
Is Ayudha Puja on 19 or 20 October this year?
Navami begins at 10:51 AM on 19 October and is still present at sunrise on 20 October, so most South Indian calendars keep Ayudha Puja and Saraswati Puja on the morning of Tuesday 20 October. Some families perform it on Monday 19 October. Ask our pandits for your tradition.
When is Bijoya Dashami and Sindoor Khela in Bengal?
Bengali calendars observe Bijoya Dashami, Sindoor Khela and Durga visarjan on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.
When should Vidyarambha be done?
Vidyarambha (Aksharabhyasam) is done on Vijayadashami. Many families do it on 20 October; in Kerala and at some temples it is done on the morning of 21 October, while Dashami is still present. Our pandits follow your family or temple custom.
Is Dussehra a good day to buy a vehicle or start something new?
Yes. Vijayadashami is one of the most auspicious days of the year for new beginnings, such as buying a vehicle, starting a business or beginning studies. A Vahana Puja blesses the new vehicle on the day.
Can you do Ayudha Puja at my office or factory?
Yes. We arrange pandits for offices, shops, factories and vehicle fleets, with GST invoices for businesses.
Can I book a pandit who speaks my language?
Yes. We have pandits for Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam and more.
