Story behind this Ekadashi with Significance
Behind every Ekadashi lies a tale of faith and miracle. The story of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi beautifully explains how Vishnu’s blessings can turn a king’s sorrow into joy.
Long ago, in the beautiful city of Bhadravati, there lived a noble king Suketuman with his queen Champa. They were blessed with everything, but they were deeply unhappy as they had no child to carry on their generation. Even the king’s ancestors were worried about who would continue their lineage after the king’s time.
One day, filled with despair, Suketuman went into a deep forest. Tired and thirsty, he came across a lake surrounded by hermitages where divine sages, known as Vishvadevas, lived. The king bowed before them and shared his inner turmoil. The sages told him that today was Putrada Ekadashi and that observing this fast with great devotion to Vishnu blesses devotees with virtuous children.
The king sincerely followed the fast according to their instructions. He broke the fast on Dwadashi and returned to Bhadravati. Pleased with his devotion, Vishnu blessed him, and after some time the queen gave birth to a son, who later followed the path of devotion and righteousness.
