Gruhapravesham is a sacred house-entering ceremony deeply rooted in Telugu tradition. It marks the beginning of a new chapter, ensuring spiritual protection and auspiciousness before moving into a new home.
Day 1 Evening – Vastu Shanti & Rakshogna Homam
Before entering the home, Vastu Shanti Homam and Rakshogna Homam are performed to eliminate Vastu Doshas and purify the space from any negative energies that may have accumulated during construction.
Day 2 Morning – House Entry & Main Pooja Rituals
- Gau Pooja (Aavupooja): A cow enters first as a symbol of purity and divine grace.
- Kalasha Sthapana: Homeowners carry a Kalasham filled with Ganga Jal, turmeric, and mango leaves while entering.
- Milk Boiling Ceremony (Palu Ponginchadam): Milk is boiled till it overflows, symbolizing abundance and good fortune.
- Ganapathi Pooja: Lord Ganesha is invoked to remove all doshas.
- Maha Sankalpam & Punyahavachanam: Ritual purification of the home and its occupants.

- Performed on auspicious muhurthams based on Janma Nakshatram and Telugu Panchangam.
- Preferably during Uttarayanam (Jan–June); avoided in Ashadam and Pitru Paksha unless necessary.
