Barsi Ceremony

Barsi is the first-year Shradh ceremony performed to honor and seek blessings from the departed soul. This ritual is observed annually on the same Tithi (lunar day) the person passed away. The eldest son or the closest family member performs the ceremony, accompanied by other relatives. Conducting this puja with devotion ensures peace for the departed soul and strengthens the ancestral blessings upon the family.

Significance of Barsi Ceremony

Barsi, also known as the first death anniversary Shradh, is a sacred ritual that ensures peace and liberation (moksha) for the departed soul. Performed as per Hindu scriptures, this ritual also reduces the impact of Pitru Dosha and invokes blessings from the ancestral realm.

  • It expresses gratitude and remembrance towards ancestors.
  • Helps secure blessings for family harmony, health, and prosperity.

Steps Involved in Barsi Puja

  • Vishwadev Sthapana Pujan
The ceremony begins with the invocation of Vishwadev – the deity who receives the offerings and delivers them to the Pitru Loka (ancestral realm).
  • Pinda Pradhan
Rice balls (pindas) made with ghee, honey, curd, sugar, and milk are offered with devotion, symbolizing nourishment and release of the soul.
  • Tarpan
Black sesame seeds (til) mixed with water are offered while chanting mantras to seek forgiveness and spiritual upliftment for the departed.
  • Brahmin Bhojan
Feeding Brahmins is an essential part of the Shradh. It is believed that Brahmins represent the ancestors during this ceremony. Their blessings remove karmic obstacles and bring spiritual merit.

When to Perform Barsi Puja?

  • It is observed on the first death anniversary as per Tithi (Hindu lunar date), not by the English calendar.
  • Can be conducted at home or online via live ePuja with proper Vedic procedures.

Benefits of Barsi Ceremony

  • Ensures peace and liberation for the departed soul.
  • Mitigates Pitru Dosha and its negative effects on family life.
  • Invokes blessings for success, health, and protection of future generations.

More Information

  • Date must be fixed based on the deceased person’s Tithi.
  • All puja materials will be arranged.
  • Brahmin bhojan can be coordinated by the family or arranged through us.
