Annaprashan Pooja

Annaprashan is a sacred ritual where a baby is introduced to solid food, usually sweet rice or kheer, for the first time. This puja is performed to bless the child with a healthy, prosperous, and nourished life. It is an essential milestone in a baby’s early years and holds special significance in Marathi households, where it is also known as "Mukhe Bhaat". This ritual symbolizes the transition from mother’s milk to solid food, ensuring the baby’s well-being and positive growth.

Annaprashan marks the sacred moment when a baby is introduced to solid food for the very first time. This beautiful samskara, deeply rooted in Hindu tradition, is performed to bless the child with good health, long life, and wisdom.

When is Annaprashan Performed?

  • Usually conducted in the 6th or 7th month after birth, when the baby is ready for solid food.
  • The date is selected based on the baby’s Janma Nakshatra and family traditions.
  • In many Marathi households, Annaprashan is traditionally performed on Dwadashi tithi or other auspicious muhurats.

Annaprashan Puja Vidhi (Procedure)

  • The ceremony begins with Ganapati Puja to remove obstacles and invoke divine protection.
  • Sacred Vedic mantras are chanted by the Pandit to sanctify the ritual.
  • The baby is fed a small portion of sweet rice (kheer) as their first solid food.
  • A symbolic test follows: the baby is offered items like a book, gold coin, pen, and food—what they choose is believed to hint at their future path.
  • Elders and family members bless the baby with health, knowledge, and abundance.

Benefits of Performing Annaprashan

  • Ensures the baby’s healthy transition to solid food.
  • Removes negative energies and blesses the child’s digestion and nourishment.
  • Strengthens family bonding, with blessings from elders and relatives.
  • Brings wisdom, happiness, and divine protection to the child’s life.

Important Notes for ePuja

  • Live participation only – the ritual will be conducted live via video.
  • Recording is not available for this puja due to its personal and sacred nature.
  • All puja materials and instructions will be provided beforehand by our team.
