Significance of Amavasya Tarpan

Tarpan is a sacred ritual performed to honor and offer oblations to one’s ancestors. It is especially significant when performed on Amavasya (New Moon day), believed to be the time when ancestral energies are most receptive. By performing Tarpan, devotees seek forgiveness for ancestral karma, offer gratitude, and receive blessings for peace, prosperity, and overall well-being.

Amavasya Tarpan Procedure

  • Offerings: Use a handful of water mixed with black sesame seeds. Do not use spoons or droplets. Offerings should be made directly with both hands in the traditional way.
  • Vessels: Perform the ritual using copper or brass vessels, which are considered spiritually beneficial and auspicious.
  • Direction: Face east or south while performing the Tarpan for maximum spiritual effect, as per Vedic tradition.

Benefits of Performing Amavasya Tarpan

  • Ancestral Blessings: Ensures peace for departed souls and attracts their blessings for success, stability, and health.
  • Mitigates Pitru Dosh: Helps reduce the malefic effects of Pitru Dosh (ancestral karmic imbalance) in the birth chart.
  • Brings Peace and Prosperity: Creates harmony at home and helps overcome obstacles in family and career.
