Significance of Ritu Shanti Pooja
Ritu Shanti Pooja is a sacred and traditional ritual performed to purify and bless a girl upon attaining puberty. This ceremony signifies her transition into womanhood and ensures spiritual and physical protection during this important phase of life. Rooted in Kannada tradition, it involves Vedic chanting, cleansing rituals, and planetary pacification to invite divine grace and positive energy.
This pooja includes Punyahavachanam, a powerful cleansing ritual where sacred water is energized through Ganapathi Pooja, Kalasha Pooja, and Vedic Mantra Chanting. The energized water is sprinkled on the girl and her surroundings to invoke divine protection and sanctity.
If any doshas (astrological imbalances) are identified in the girl’s birth chart, additional rituals like Bhuvaneshwari Shanti Homam, Navagraha Shanti, and Nakshatra Shanti are performed for remedial healing.
When to Perform Ritu Shanti?
- Traditionally on the 11th day after the onset of the first menstruation.
- In some communities, it is observed on the 5th day.
- The date is selected based on Janma Nakshatra, planetary positions, and auspicious muhurta according to the Kannada Panchanga.
