Asthi Visarjan

Asthi Visarjan is the ritual of immersing the ashes (Asthi) of a deceased person in a holy river. This final act of devotion liberates the soul from the cycle of rebirth, ensuring peace and salvation. As per Hindu traditions, immersing Asthis in sacred waters allows the departed soul to attain moksha (liberation) and receive the blessings of ancestors.

What is Asthi Visarjan?

Asthi Visarjan is the sacred act of immersing the remaining ashes and bone fragments of a deceased person into a holy river, as prescribed by Vedic scriptures. This final step is crucial for:

  • Ensuring the soul's peaceful transition to Pitrulok (ancestral realm)
  • Completing the cycle of post-death rituals
  • Helping the soul attain moksha (liberation) and release from rebirth

According to Hindu tradition, failure to perform Asthi Visarjan properly can cause spiritual unrest for the departed.

When Should Asthi Visarjan Be Performed?

  • Preferably on the 3rd, 7th, or 9th day after cremation
  • The sooner, the better — ideally before the 10th day
  • The 3rd day after cremation is considered most auspicious
  • Must be performed in a flowing river (e.g., Ganga, Kaveri, Godavari, or Saryu)

How is the Ritual Conducted?

  • The Asthi is respectfully placed in a mud pot (kalash)
  • The entire process is conducted by BookMyPooja Pandits at a designated sacred river
  • The puja includes Sankalpa, mantras, river immersion, and tarpan offerings
  • The family’s name, gotra, and departed person’s details are included in the ritual
  • You can join the puja live via video call OR receive a recorded video afterward

Live or Recording – Choose One Option
