Spiritual Significance
As per Tamil tradition, this pooja is mostly performed by Sumangalis (married women) to protect the husband and to pray for the well-being of the family. Goddess Lakshmi is invoked in a Kalasham or idol and worshipped with lotus flowers, turmeric, kumkum, and fruits.
Varalakshmi is believed to bestow Ashta Aishwaryam (eight forms of wealth): Dhana, Dhanya, Veerya, Vijaya, Arogya, Aishwarya, Santan, and Gaja Lakshmi.
Pooja Procedure

- A decorated Kalasham with coconut, mango leaves, and Lakshmi face is installed
- Goddess Varalakshmi is invoked with Sri Suktam and Lakshmi Ashtothram
- Special Naivedyam such as payasam, vadai, fruits, coconut, and sweet pongal is offered
- Lotus flowers, being her favorite, are offered during archana
- The pooja concludes with aarti and distribution of prasadam
- In Tamil homes, women tie the sacred yellow thread (charadu) around their wrist as a mark of devotion and protection
