Day 1 Evening – Vastu Shanti & Rakshogna Homa:
Before entering the new house, it is customary in Tamil culture to conduct Vastu Shanti Homa and Rakshogna Homa to remove any negative energy and construction-related doshas. These rituals cleanse the home and prepare it for divine blessings.
Day 2 Morning – Entering the Home & Pooja Rituals:
- Gau Pooja (Pasu Pooja): Worshipping a cow at the entrance is considered highly auspicious. In many Tamil homes, the first being to enter the house is a cow, symbolizing purity and divine presence.
- Entering the Home (Gruhapravesham): The house owners enter with a Kalasham (sacred pot) filled with water, a coconut, and mango leaves, invoking divine energy.
- Milk Boiling Ceremony (Paalu Kacha Karyam): Boiling milk until it overflows is a major Tamil tradition, symbolizing abundance, prosperity, and happiness. The first offering is made to the deities.
- Ganapathy Pooja & Homam: Lord Ganesha is worshipped first to remove obstacles and bless the home.
- Maha Sankalpam & Punyahavachanam: A purification ritual that ensures a fresh and sacred beginning.
Main Homams Performed:
- Ganapathy Homam – Seeking blessings from Lord Ganesha.
- Mahalakshmi Kubera Homam – To invite prosperity and financial stability.
- Navagraha Homam – To ensure planetary harmony for the family’s well-being.
- Vastu Homam & Japa – To align the house with natural elements and remove Vastu doshas.
Satyanarayanar Poojai (Optional): Some Tamil families conduct this special pooja to invoke divine blessings for peace and prosperity.
